The fact that not every meter or measurement set-up is the same was taken into account in the design of EuroLoop’s liquid and gas facilities. Indeed, EuroLoop is not only suitable for implementing calibrations, but can also be used for research into the effects of non-ideal flow profiles and/or other meter designs. The key words here are flexibility and space. Both the liquid and gas facilities are therefore eminently suitable for R&D.

Skids and separate meters

A growing number of parties in the oil and gas world are making use of complete meter skids and are aware of the importance of the calibration of set-ups, including the inlet and outlet sections. Both the gas and liquid laboratories have, for this reason, been designed with ample space and without supports or other obstacles having been secured in the floor. Consequently, very large set-ups can be assembled in the laboratories or halls and then connected in line. In this way, conditions in the application for which the equipment is ultimately intended are better approximated. And this helps improve the quality of measurements taken in the field.

The effect of non-ideal flow profiles

In practice, it is not always possible to install a meter according to the book. The effects of non-ideal situations are important for both meter users and manufacturers. At EuroLoop it is possible to assemble all sorts of pipe configurations in order to determine the influence of non-ideal flow profiles. To this end, the test sections have intentionally been constructed in such a way that they are very long with a lot of free space upwards and sideways.
