CNG installations are used for selling Compressed Natural Gas to consumers for use in their motor vehicles. Because these installations have not been on the market for a very long time, the Dutch government has not yet defined specifications for their verification.

Legislation

When the Calibration Act was still in force (until 31 October 2006), some dispensations have been granted. These systems, if they comply with the model that has received the dispensation, can be placed on the market and put into use after verification.

Since 31 October 2006 the new Dutch Metrology law has been put into force. A new legislation will be drawn up that will be based on OIML Recommendation R139("Compressed gaseous fuels measuring systems for vehicles").

Be prepared for the future

Until the new law will be put into force, CNG Installations can be placed on the market without approval or verification. However, as soon as the law is put into force, also the systems that are already put into use must comply with the requirements. Therefore, we recommend you to ask us to check installations that you want to place on the market against the draft regulations that are now available.

CNG installation modules, such as electronic indicators and self-service units, are subject to the same requirements as petrol pump modules (OIML Recommendation R117). NMi has all the facilities to test and certify your electronic indicators and self-service units in accordance with this recommendation, for both CNG installations and petrol pumps.
