The CE-marking that you can often find on products, guarantees that the product complies with the applicable requirements within the European Economic Area (the 27 European member states and Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland). CE stands for Conformité Européenne.
Requirements for CE-marking
In the territories of the member countries it is not allowed to place products on the market without the CE-marking. To be allowed to affix the CE-marking on the product, the manufacturer must declare that the product complies with ALL the applicable European Directives (declaration of conformity). For a measuring instrument, this can include more than just MID, for example the EMC directive, the low voltage directive (LVD) or the ATEX directive.
Notified Body
In some cases, intervention of a notified body is prescribed. A Notified Body is designated by the member states and has been presented to the European Commission and the other member states.
NMi Certin B.V. is notified body for the Non Automatic Weighing Instruments directive (NAWI Directive 90/384/EEC) and for the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID Directive 2004/22/EEC)
The aim of CE-marking on one hand is to stimulate free trade between the member countries and on the other hand to regulate the responsibility of manufacturers and consumers.
NMi can help you with the legislation concerning the metrological aspects of the products.
