Type examination
Exhaust fumes from combustion motors (petrol or LPG) contain chemical substances which can be harmful to the environment and public health. The composition of such exhaust fumes must comply with the statutory requirements.
To check whether a vehicle complies with the statutory requirements, the chemical composition of the exhaust fumes from cars with combustion motors (petrol or LPG) is measured during the MOT, with the aid of an exhaust gas analyser. This measures the concentration of various substances, including carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons and oxygen, at the specified oil temperature and number of revs.
NMi tests and certifies exhaust gas analysers, oil thermometers and rev counters in accordance with the statutory specifications for MOT measurement instruments. If your measurement instrument satisfies the requirements, then you receive the Dutch type approval certificate and, on request, the complete test report from us.
In addition we can certify your exhaust gas analyser in accordance with the OIML Recommendation R99. You receive the complete OIML test report, containing all the results of the investigation, from us. Many countries will approve your exhaust gas analyser based on this test report.
From 30 October 2006, the European directive 2004/22/EC (annex MI-010) applies to exhaust gas analysers.
