Type examination

The exhaust fumes from diesel motors contain solid  (smoke) particles. Because these particles can be harmful to the environment and public health, the concentration of the solid particles in the exhaust fumes of a diesel motor may not be higher than the level specified in the statutory regulations.

To check whether a vehicle complies with this standard, the exhaust fumes from trucks and cars with diesel motors are tested during the MOT, with the aid of a smoke meter. This determines the concentration of smoke particles at a specified oil temperature and number of revs.

NMi tests and certifies smoke meters, oil thermometers and rev counters in accordance with the statutory specifications for MOT measurement instruments. If your measurement instrument satisfies the requirements, then you receive the Dutch type approval certificate and, on request, the complete test report from us.

You can come to us too, for the type examination of peripheral equipment, such as suction units for zero emission. You receive a separate test certificate for this.
