Type examination

In the Netherlands, motor vehicles may only use the public roads if they satisfy the statutory requirements for safety and the environment.

To check whether vehicles actually do satisfy the requirements, the police use various measurement instruments, such as brake deceleration meters, pedal force meters, manometers, wheel load meters, profile depth meters, traction meters (for trailers) and tyre pressure meters.

NMi has all the facilities and expertise to test and certify these measurement instruments in accordance with the draft specifications for police measurement tools. If your measurement instrument satisfies the requirements, you receive the Dutch type approval certificate and, on request, the complete test report, from us.
