More and more frequently, the Dutch police are using modern measurement instruments to maintain public order. Because the results of these measurements are used as legal evidence, it’s extremely important that the measurement instruments used function correctly, and that they give reliable and accurate results.

NMi tests and certifies police measurement instruments, such as speed meters and breath analysis equipment in accordance with the statutory requirements for the Dutch market. Foreign countries, such as Belgium, Germany, France and The United Kingdom, accept our test results too.

NMi offers all the help and support you need in order to place your police measurement instrument on the market as quickly as possible. Because all of the tests are carried out in our own test laboratory, you’re guaranteed a very short time to market.

NMi advises the Dutch government in setting up specifications for police measurement instruments, such as the draft specifications for police measurement tools, and the regulations for breath analysis. In addition, we help in trying to come up with new techniques and solutions. For example, we are involved in a number of trial projects, including section control and axle load measurements on the motorways.

Of course, you can always come to us for the voluntary certification of your measurement instrument. In fact, recently we tested a number of airplane height meters for the Schiphol police.
