Non-automatic weighing instruments are weighing instruments that require external operation to perform a weight measurement. If these weighing instruments are used for trading purposes in Europe, then they must satisfy the European directive 90/384/EEC for non-automatic weighing instruments (NAWI). 

Type examination

NMi has all the facilities and expertise to test and certify your weighing instrument or parts of it, such as indicators, load cells and cash registers, and peripheral equipment, such as computers and printers in accordance with different guidelines:

In Europe

• NAWI 2009/23/EC
• EN 45501

Outside Europe

• OIML-recommendation R60 (load cells)
• OIML-recommendation R76 (complete weighing instruments and other modules)

In addition, we can carry out extra tests for countries that have additional requirements. Thanks to many years of experience, we know exactly which tests are required for your weighing instrument and what the test report should look like.

Quick market access

NMi guarantees a maximum project lead time of six weeks for the complete test procedure of your non-automatic weighing instrument. NMi has signed mutual acceptance agreements for non-automatic weighing instruments with China, Japan and Australia. Based on the NMi test report, the governments in these countries grant approval immediately for your weighing instrument, without requiring the product to be retested.

Result

If your weighing instrument satisfies the statutory requirements you receive the complete test report and the European approval documents from us. With these, you can place your weighing instrument on the market immediately in all EU member states, in Switzerland and in most of the candidate member states. For each separate module you receive an individual test certificate.

For countries outside the EU, you receive the complete OIML test report and an OIML Certificate of Conformity. This certificate can be used to gain market access in many countries more easily. To date, almost five hundred OIML certificates of conformity have been issued, of which more than three hundred have been issued by NMi.
