Last November NMi and her sister institute VSL took part in a three-day road show in cooperation with eight companies active in the Oil & Gas, Process, Food and Chemical industries with respect to measurement, control and automation.

Mini-training sessions

In a total of 25 mini-training sessions per day, attendees were given the opportunity to learn more on subjects ranging from characteristics of certain types of instrumentation to safety legislation and procedures. Key objective of the Academy was to offer useful, non-supplier-specific information to people working with instruments and systems in the above-mentioned fields.

Almost three hundred interested visitors from as far as Dordrecht, Urmond and Assen could choose between training sessions on, for instance, “The Basics of Flow Measurement”, “Valves in SIL Safety Systems” and “Leak Detection on Pipeline Systems”.

Flow meter calibration and metrological reliability

NMi participated in sessions dedicated to flow meter calibration, custody transfer level gauging, metrological reliability and the Measuring Instruments Directive in The Netherlands. The more successful out of these were the flow meter calibration and metrological reliability sessions. In the latter, together with VSL, it was shown how the combination of a different project approach and system design could lead to financial improvements over the lifetime of a measuring system. In other words, metrological life-cycle management is well worthwhile.
