Chinese manufacturers focus increasingly on the European market. There was therefore considerable interest in European approvals as well as OIML test reports, OIML-MAA systems and NTEP test approvals at the NMi stand at the recent Interweighing exhibition (22–24 April 2011). Many manufacturers are looking for a company that can offer a complete package in test approvals.

Our customers appreciate our ongoing development to ensure acceptance of our test approvals and the continued collaboration with diverse metrological organisations worldwide.

After missing the previous InterWeighing exhibition – because the Iceland vulcano, Eyjafjallajokull, literally dropped ash in the NMi salesteam’s plans to travel to the exhibition – we were present this year at one of the biggest international events for weighing instruments. The exhibition were spread out over three floors with a multitude of Chinese weighing manufacturers – but many international manufacturers were also present.

Technical questions

We organized special one-to-one sessions with our team of specialists to answer various technical questions. General subjects covered were, for example, requirements for a quality system to get CE-NAWI certification, private labelling, and the availability of pre-tests in China. We will cover these and other questions in the next edition of our newsletter.

“We have EC TAC – what now?”

A common question from manufacturers with EC TAC is to know what the next step should be. The answer is that there are two possible ways to enter the market:

The first step to get a specific weighing instrument in the market is to have it approved by a notified body. After approval, the notified body will issue an approval number and the specific instrument will then be ready for use. Secondly, each individual weighing instrument must be checked by the manufacturer as part of their production process, using an approved quality system from an appointed notified body. After conforming to the local approvals, the instrument is ready for use.

Servicing of an instrument in use is more problematic because the instrument falls under national regulations. A local importer or service organization may be the best solution in cases like these.
