NL – Dordrecht, 14 April 2011. With a new organizational set-up for the three-year international conference, Milestones in Metrology to be held from 9 to 11 May 2012, organizer NMi aims to attract a broader spectrum of visitors. Moving from the Netherlands to Venice in Italy, the conference offers the perfect platform for a meeting between manufacturers, regulators, end users and metrological institutes in the field of metrology.
The conference trailer on the NMi website gives an initial overview of the new structure, atmosphere and topics of the conference for the markets of Energy, Oil & Gas, Weighing and Traffic. The complete programme will focus on legal metrology, but this scope will be expanded with the introduction of industrial metrology. During breaks and evening events the focus will shift towards networking and meeting one another.
New networking approach
The networking aspect of the conference will kick off with online networks on LinkedIn and Facebook. “This will give visitors the opportunity to discuss topics and the option to get in contact with other business-related people before the conference. NMi’s experts will be available for comments. It is also possible to give input on the programme. Moreover, regular updates will be sent out via these networking groups as well as Twitter”, explains Pieter van Breugel, General Manager of NMi.
New structure
For the fourth edition of Milestones in Metrology, the plenary sessions have been reduced to offer a full programme for the four markets (Energy, Oil & Gas, Weighing and Traffic), so that the conference will create an interest to a wider interest group in the metrology industry. Legal metrology will continue to be the focus, but lectures about scientific and industrial metrology will be added. According to Van Breugel: “Of course, we will make sure that testing laboratories, regulators and Notified Bodies will have a complete programme covering all four markets”.
