Good news for manufacturers of gas meters: after a long period of time, the R 137 document for gas meters is finally completed. In 2012 the R 137-1/-2 document with the requirements and test procedures was published. Now the R 137-3 with the test report format has been published as well, which makes the R 137 document complete.
As a consequence of this completion, the R 137 can from now on be used for the OIML Certificate of Conformity System. If a gas meter complies with all requirements laid down in this Recommendation, an OIML Certificate of Conformity can be issued. This opens doors to get metrological approvals in a number of different countries, like South-America, Australia, China and many other Asian countries. The R 137 can also be used as a normative document to obtain European MID approvals for any type of gas meter.
NMi greatly contributed in writing the R 137. It won’t be a surprise that we have an independent ISO 17025 for this activity. Furthermore, NMi is appointed as the first OIML Issuing Authority for this document. The document itself can be downloaded on the OIML website.
