OIML R 46 accepted: testing is already possible at NMi

Since many years NMi performs examination for electricity meters in conformity with a number of IEC standards, like the IEC 62052 / 62053 or the EN 50470 series. A large number of manufacturers use these NMi test reports in order to receive an MID approval for Europe, or to get approvals worldwide.

Now an extra possibility for worldwide market access is published and ready for use. Recently the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) has developed the Recommendation R 46,“Active electrical energy meters”. This Recommendation is accepted on 11 October 2013 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam by the members of the International Committee of Legal Metrology (CIML) during their yearly meeting. Publication of the official version of this document is expected within a short period of time.

This implies a time- and cost saving opportunity for manufacturers: when having their meters tested in accordance with this Recommendation, they will be able to get easy market access in multiple countries by using the combination of OIML and IEC/EN reports.

CIML2

NMi is able to offer full OIML R 46 testing for all types of active electrical energy meters. Individual stated tests can be performed separately, like the durability test conform par. 6.4.17 in accordance with IEC 62059-32-1 (testing at maximum current at the maximum temperature for 1.000 h) or the high order harmonics test conform par. 6.3.17. It’s an extra service in order to obtain the best worldwide market access.

Based on the manufacturers’ requirements and country specifications, NMi can make separate plans on:

• MID Testing
• OIML Testing
• IEC/EN testing
• A combination of all available OIML/IEC/EN standards to create the most optimal market acceptance package.
