Testing gas meters conform EN 16314: additional functionalities

It occurs more and more that traditional mechanical gas meters are equipped with additional functionalities. There are several different possibilities, like electronic displays powered by batteries, prepayment systems with gas valves, tariff control or communication devices.

Additional functionality for gas meters can be realized in several ways: integrated in the gas meter, attached to the meter or remote from the meter. CEN / TC 237 has issued the EN 16314 “Gas meters – Additional functionalities”. It provides guidance how to examine the different possibilities.

At NMi, gas meters with additional functionalities can be tested in accordance with the EN 16314. Depending on the implemented items a test plan can be made in order to examine whether the requirements as laid down in this standard are fulfilled.
