The NLF and Compliance with the 2014/32/EU MID Directive

The NLF and Compliance with the 2014/32/EU MID Directive

Are you a representative, importer, manufacturer or distributor involved in measurement instruments that are covered by the Measurement Instrument Directive (MID)? If that is true, then this white paper is a valuable read. From 20 April 2016, your instrument needs to comply with a set of new rules that has come into effect. It is important to know what has changed on this date, and what not. This white paper will give you an overview of the consequences and possible actions that you need to take.

The European Union has developed an extended package of modernised rules and regulations, the New Legislative Framework (NLF), which applies to all products sold on the European market from 20 April 2016. This is a complete normative system that strengthens and completes the existing rules by trying to include all possible aspects of safety, quality and traceability of products that enter the EU market. The main reason to establish the NLF within Europe is to ensure the health and safety of the general public and to reduce the number of products on the market which do not satisfy the requirements set out in EU legislation. The framework is designed to increase product compliance, to provide equal opportunities in the European market and to protect consumers from unsafe products, including imports from third countries.

Compliance with 2014/32/EU MID Directive
The new Measurement Instruments Directive 2014/32/EU has also been implemented as of 20 April 2016. After this date, all economic operators need to take appropriate measures to ensure that they only ‘make available’ measuring instruments that comply with this version of the MID, with special attention to health and safety issues.
